Healthy Ageing: Visions for our Futures - Events Programme 2020

“Ten years of concerted, catalytic and collaborative action to improve the lives of older people, their families, and the communities in which they live”. World Health Organisation

Oxford Brookes University is delighted to mark the Decade of Healthy Ageing with a month of free lunchtime seminars, workshops and talks to illustrate the breadth and depth of action that we can take as individuals, employers, professionals and researchers. Our researchers and partners will showcase leading edge research, explore policy challenges and provide us with advice and tips about how to age healthily.

The programme covers everything from exercise, alcohol and nutrition, to the design of buildings, transport systems and towns; it considers the role of employers and how to live well with dementia or a cancer diagnosis. Our contributors reflect the breadth of experience and knowledge across the University’s Healthy Ageing and Care Network; key policy organisations such as the Centre for Ageing Better and International Longevity Centre; local, national and international partners such as Sir Muir Gray, Professor Judy Phillips and Professor Dame Louise Robinson.

The programme is divided into four themes:

· Our Decade of Healthy Ageing: Visions and future priorities

· Ageing Well: Includes physical exercise, nutrition and alcohol moderation, living with dementia and cancer survivorship

· Homes and neighbourhoods for healthy ageing: The design of age-friendly housing, neighbourhoods and cities.

· Work and ageing: The role of the employer and employee
